Mongolia IMC 2026

International young, critical, and analytical thinkers compete in friendly rivalry to solve Mathematical Challenges

July 22 - 27, 2026

Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia

About the Competition

The International Mathematics Competition (IMC) consists of two main divisions:

  • EMIC – Key Stage II Division (Upper Primary Education)
  • IWYMIC – Key Stage III Division (Lower Secondary Education)

Both divisions include individual and team contests. All participants are required to compete in both formats, encouraging a well-rounded mathematical experience.

Origin of IWYMIC: The International World Youth Mathematics Competition (IWYMIC) was first held in 1999 in Kaohsiung, Taiwan. Initiated by Professor Leou Hsian of Kaohsiung National Normal University, the competition was designed for junior high school students who showed exceptional interest in mathematics. During the early years, teams primarily came from Southeast Asia. Over time, the competition grew internationally, with different countries hosting the event annually.

Origin of EMIC: EMIC began in 2003 under the guidance of Dr. Kajornpai Pramote from the Ministry of Education of Thailand. The first edition was supported by a Buddhist temple and attended by students from 14 countries. Between 2003 and 2007, EMIC was hosted in rotation by countries such as India, the Philippines, Indonesia, and Hong Kong.

In 2008, the Ministry of Education of Thailand brought the two divisions together under one umbrella, officially naming the unified event the International Mathematics Competition (IMC). Since then, IMC has become a prestigious platform celebrating mathematical excellence among young students from around the globe.
